Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:

Intended audience
Project managers or consultants for preparing or assisting an organization in implementing an OHSMS, OHSAS 18001 auditors, Occupational Health and Safety managers.

Prerequisites
ISO 45001 Foundation certification or basic knowledge of the ISO 45001 standard is recommended.

Introduction to the ISO 45001 standard and setting up an OHSMS

  • Situating the ISO 45001 standard within the regulatory framework of OH&S.
  • Fundamental principles of OH&S.
  • Specific features and needs of the organization.
  • Analyzing the existing management system.
Hands-on work
Benefits of the ISO 45001 standard. Case study on analyzing a context for setting up an OHSMS.

Planning the implementation of an OHSMS

  • Explaining how to implement the clause: Leadership and participation by workers.
  • Determining the scope of the OH&S management system.
  • Formalizing an OH&S policy.
  • Implementing the clause: Identifying hazards and assessing risks and opportunities.
Hands-on work
Defining the scope, writing an OH&S policy, controls to manage risks.

Implementing an OHSMS

  • Managing and mobilizing resources.
  • Implementing clauses: Awareness and communication.
  • Setting up a documentation management system.
  • Implementing clauses: Operational activities and emergency response.
Case study
Creating a resource management plan and an emergency preparedness and response procedure.

Continuous improvement and preparing for an OHSMS certification audit

  • Implementing the clause: Monitoring, measurement, analysis, and evaluation of performance.
  • Setting up an internal audit and management review.
  • Explaining the handling of incidents and non-compliances.
  • Preparing for a certification audit.
  • Certification process and end of training.

Taking actions to confirm compliance with ISO 45011, audit trail, corrective action plan.

Certification exam

  • Overview of the certification process.
  • Domains 1 and 2: Principles and fundamental concepts of the OHSMS.
  • Domains 3 and 4: Planning and implementing an OHSMS.
  • Domain 5: Evaluating performance, monitoring and measuring an OHSMS.
  • Domains 6 and 7: Continuous improvement and preparing for an OHSMS certification audit.
Hands-on work
Taking the three-hour “Certified ISO 45001 Lead Implementer” exam.


Certification
After passing the exam, the participants can request qualification as “Certified ISO 45001 Provisional Implementer”, “Certified ISO 45001 Implementer” or “Certified ISO 45001 Lead Implementer” depending on their level of experience.
